When I was younger and would used to go watch my parents play golf I had a staple I always ordered at the snack bar that was enough to persuade me to go watch the boring game:
Grilled cheese with chips stuffed in the middle.
A lot has changed since then. I am now one of the ones partaking in the sport and actually might enjoy it. I would never be persuaded by white bread, american cheese or ruffles style chips.
But the combination is still in my head.
So this is more of a homage. I’ve made a meat eater version and a vego/gluten free version of the salty chip grilled cheese.
His and Hers Grilled Cheese’s
His: Rudi’s Harvest Seeded Bread (so good) shredded cheddar cheese, a slice of cheese (I used Havarti) crushed Ruffles-style chips, and bacon
Hers: Udi’s Millet Chia Bread, Daiya Mozzarella or Cheddar cheese, nooch, tempeh, and crushed popchips (though any gluten free salty chip would do). You could also experiment by adding a little nooch cheesy sauce in there to make it a bit more moist.
You can add the crushed chips in after its cooked, or fut in into the filling mixture and pan frying the whole sandwich.
Question: What’s your favorite addition to a grilled cheese?
