For the past two weeks I’ve been getting back into running. (This week its been more of an indoor affair due to the snowfall)
I realized that I hadn’t really been running since the new year. I ran a bunch when I visited my parents in Florida but I’ve kind of been a cycling fiend for the past couple of months.
The BolderBoulder is only a few months and I haven’t even begun to think about training if I want to do a duathlon or triathlon this summer. It was time to get my butt back on the open road, and I hit the ground running.
I was surprised to see that though my speed needed work, my endurance was still there.
I did what was once my usual 5 mile loop around Wash Park and back. I remember for a long time I used to run without earbuds. Which may shock some people but you’d be surprised how mentally distracted I can get.
Here’s a little journey inside my mind during a typical run (and this is with my music on)
Hopefully you get a sense of my competitive side, my daydreaming side, and my ambitious side.
I should sign up for a 5k soon.
I love this song.
What do I need to do today?
I should finish that paper by tomorrow.
I need to remember to put that point in my group project.
She looks familiar. Do I know her?
I should call so-and-so, I havent talked to them in ages
What should I make for dinner?
A 70-year-old woman just passed me. I need to amp up my run days.
Isn’t that coffee shop I like on this street?
“That dog is so cute. I want it.
That guy is cute. I want him.
“Oh! Watch out for the goose poop!”
“Watch out for the goose!”
I’m so craving a cold smoothie right now.
No a kombucha mocktail, for sure.
Nothing sounds better than an ice cold beer right now
That would be a good idea for the blog…
And so it was born
The great thing about this is now I can actually remember to do all the stuff that goes into my head on my runs.
Oh and I did make a refreshing beverage post run
No, it’s not a super yellowy Bud.
Kombucha Mojito Time!
And don’t start running to the Stadium to get one….I can’t really tell you how this glass found its way into my house
Mango Kombucha, Lime Sparkling water, Mint, lime juice
ahhh.

Funny
My stream of thought when running is one of the best I get I think, as it tends to reduce my anxiety levels and also give rise to clear, rather than frantic, thoughts. And yes, also thoughts on avoiding goose poop (or whatever it might be)!
For me getting lost in my own thoughts is like a “clear” mind. I just usually don’t stop to pay attention to the thousand random thoughts going through my head
I want your mind! Part of the reason I’ve never been able to stick with running is that my mind never shifts from “oh god I’m so bored. I’m so bored. Why can’t I concentrate on anything interesting to pass the time? This is so boring. AAAAAH I’M SO BORED KEEP RUNNING!”
I’d be happy to share half of my ADD with you, anytime girlfriend
But I think that’s my problem. As someone who can’t even watch a movie without also blogging/folding clothes/cooking, etc, just running isn’t interesting enough to sustain me
