About Me
LIFE:
I originally hail from Baltimore, MD and am a recent graduate from the University of Denver.
I absolutely love the Rockies. It’s amazing how great the people are and that you can have an in depth conversation with someone you meet on a hike at the summit of a mountain. The majority of people out here are healthy and active, and it seems that there is a compost bin on every corner. One of my favorite things about Denver (aside from the fact that it is so close to heaven Boulder) is Wash Park. Aside from when Denver weather decides to randomly hail, tornado, or blizzard on me, I’m running, dog shopping, or soaking up the sun in the park.
Colorado certainly feels like home and I hope to establish my permanence here in the future.
I am a full time health nut, exercise enthusiast, sports aficionado, and hummus addict. I tend to overuse the word obsessed, abbreviate more words than necessary, and like my humor extra dry (with a handful of sarcasm…for good measure).
THE EPIPHANY:
I started seeing food in a new light during high school. I played field hockey competitively and had to reduce my mile time before the season started. This is when I began learning everything I could about nutrition and fitness. It was amazing to see how a tweak in my diet or training could affect my output.
FOOD:
When I started college it was very hard to eat the foods that previously had been the mainstay of my existence. (hello dining halls and microfridges!) This was especially hard since I follow a primarily vegetarian diet. I definitely survived, but I missed my kitchen access terribly.
FAMILY:
It is hard living far away from the east coast, where most of my family and friends live. My parents are my besties and I can talk to them about anything. I have an older brother, Andrew (by 4 yrs) and I’m very close with my cousin, Saryn, who is practically my sister. I’ve grown up in a family of cooking professionals and began learning about food and cooking from a young age.
I like to think of my mindset regarding health as a constant growing process. I am continuously educated by the people and resources around me. The more I read, the more things I learn and the more my food philosophy evolves.
FITNESS:
I am addicted to fitness. I will usually go a little crazy if I haven’t had any physical activity in more than 2 days. I love running, biking, and hiking the best, but like to mix it up too. In addition to health and fitness, I am also a sports aficionado. I have been known to out-statistic the most devoted male when it comes to professional football and tennis. On Sundays in the fall and winter I’m at the sports bars watching football, in March its college basketball, and during tennis season, rest assured, I will be following each Open.
One of my favorite pastimes is trying new things, whether it be new foods….
new experiences…

or new adventures…

Melbourne should certainly bring its fair share of adventure and, I would think, the prospects of continued physical activity. I’m not real sure what the “down under” folk subsist on, but I’d bet there is a lot of fresh produce to round out a diet!
Enjoy your time in Austrailia! I love your writing style – can’t wait to read more!
This is awesome Casey- we’ve much in common and will have to keep in touch beyond the studambo program
