Neat Market : Tres.

17 Apr

Neat Market recap time!

There’s a mix of iPhone and camera photos in there. Feel free to play Where’s Waldo and spot the difference :)

I got a bunch of goodies – some for my roommate and some for myself to enjoy throughout the week.

Everything in this post is vegan and some is gluten-free!

A bunch of spring-y type offerings from Nom Pod.

They had the cutest vegan peeps and marshmallow display at their table.

I walked away with homemade vegan grahams and a smores pop.

A Mai-Tai cupcake from Yosoy.

More vegan twinkies from Watercourse Bakery, but with a twist: this weeks version has a passion fruit filling.

My personal favorite of the day: a beet brownie from Beet Box (appropriate no?)

I’ve only had about one sixth of this brownie and it is dense, delicious, and full of a delicious beet flavor to it. I immediately started looking up recipes for beet brownies but I don’t think I can do this one justice.

And because we have dinner after dessert…

I don’t think the combination of chicken and waffles ever appealed to me….ever.

But hey, when in Veganland Rome.

Another Neat Market, another Vegan Van affair.

I got the Ludacris  – IPA Waffles with Denver Seitan Company Fried Chickenesque with a chickpea gravy.

I may be converted. Who was I to turn my nose up at this combination of texture and flavors.

Crispy seitan was set off by the soft and spongy, yet only slightly sweet waffle. The chickpea gravy was a great addition to make me forget the fact that I was eating a breakfast waffle with seitan.

I don’t think it would be as tasty with real chicken.

Very unique meal that I doubt you can get anywhere else. Definitely worth hunting down people.

Oh and the waffles smell like freshly baked donuts as Amie makes them in the van. Definitely more than enough to make it worth the wait in the sleet/hail/rain

Question: Have you ever tried chicken and waffles or any other odd combination?

Neat Market: All About Cupcakes

24 Feb

If you haven’t yet. Giveaway & Giveaway

Hope you guys enjoyed yesterdays Seitan Edition. Today it’s onto the sweet treats of Neat Market.

First up was a personal favorite find of mine for many reasons.

It’s called OURS, which firstly is just a great name. There was so much cool artwork and awesome calligraphy all over this display. Everything looked so earthy, rustic, and beautiful it was hard not to take a bajillion photos. The couple who own and operate OURS looked like they belong in Melbourne so obviously I was just drawn to them.

OURS had a variety of products (including a “sausage” made from mushrooms, which I forgot to photograph) and I was happy to learn they also sell at Denver Urban Homestead.

They had sold out of this seed based cheese which I was bummed about but I happily snatched up the Pumpkin & Japanese Sweet Potato Cupcakes. These were the most appealing cupcakes of the whole market. And trust me…..there were a lot of cupcakes.

I got two to take home for my roommate and I.

It lived up to my expectation. Without being to sweet the texture was just perfect and the pumpkin seeds gave a nice crunch in there too.

Next up was Beet Box tons of vegan goodies from these guys, plus some Gluten-free delights. How two guys can make some of the prettiest desserts is beyond me. I can make a mean donut, but these were just gorge.

They’re sold in a ton of coffee shops in the Denver area and will be coming out with their own storefront soon. But that location is top secret for now….darn.

They also has some cupcakes.

Savory Tartes.

Gluten-Free Goodies.

Butternut Squash Samosa

I brought home the Apple Spice donut to share with my roomie. We dug into it immediately!

Ohmygoshmygolly.

Such an amazing flavor and texture. Chock full of apples and cinnamon flavor. I am certainly going to try to emulate this to the best of my abilities.

I tried to get a picture so you can see the real chunks of apple in there. My roomate mentioned that for a buck fifty. This is a steal considering you’d probably get charged the same thing at Krispy Creme

And since were on the donut theme here’s a preview of a recipe to come out of my own kitchen.I’ll give you a hint: Lavendar

Have a great weekend. My cousins coming in town so it’s going to be a fun one!
